And Christmas blows it out of the water!! Don't get me wrong, it's great that we celebrate Christ's arrival on this earth as a human baby but that's only just the BEGINNING of our celebration - the climax for us should really be this coming Sunday.

In an effort to make good with the time I've been given (thanks to inspiration from my pal Anne) I started downloading some sermons to replace my addiction to NPR, and hopefully create a craving in my heart for some godly things... anywho - I came across a series from Mark Dever entitled "Pierced for our Transgressions." He started in on Christmas 07 and went until Easter of 08 - so cool huh? (If only I would have know I would have been doing one each day leading up to Easter - I'm like 3 behind right now). He even preaches on a passage in Leviticus - yes you heard it a "Easter" message from Leviticus!! It's been so refreshing and extremely humbling - or at least making me realize how much more humble I should be. Perhaps these messages will help you as you prepare your heart for this Sunday - check them out here. (The first one is Pass Over, Exodus 12).

My mom always made holidays something to look forward to when we were growing up. And she still does special little things for us now that I look forward to even though I'm 'all grown up' (love those x-mas socks mom!!) Each Easter we had a basket filled with yummy goodies, a useful clothing item or just some fun toy she thought we'd enjoy. My FAVORITE still to this day the egg carton gum!!! I'm SOOOOO excited to fill Jude's first Easter basket and begin one of many traditions I hope to carry on with our family. (Another one of which I hope to try are those Resurrection eggs... but I think we'll wait for some more intellect to develop before we attempt them)! So here's the wish list for this year's basket:

1. Bubbles to blow in the bathtub - bath time is our favorite time of day!!

2. A book fun book to read like "Rainbow Bob"

3. Seeds of Faith cd. I just stumbled across this sweet group they put scripture to music - much cooler than Steve Green - no offence!! They have adults and kids singing together and use the NIV. Each of their albums deals with a theme, for example Seeds of Faith is all verses relating to salvation, and comes with 2 cd's!! One for you to sing with and one for you to share with another family. Here is their website or you can take a listen here.

If you've got any other Easter celebration ideas I'm all ears!!

Here's another snapshot of the little man - we're lovin' him more each day!!

jesshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15741494844140089326noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-37149518.post-1256169474679410072009-03-07T17:46:00.009-05:002009-03-07T21:24:15.317-05:00Date Night Disaster! It's never been that big of a deal for James and I to run out and grab a bite to eat or catch a movie... but with the arrival of Jude things got a little more complicated. Sure we've gone out bunches of times and just brought him along - but we wanted some alone time this past Friday night. Hence we were plunged into the world of the scheduled "date-night." Planing in advance, lining up the sitter, making sure you're going to get back at a semi decent for baby, get the bottle ready, yada, yada, yada...

Once baby was in the arms of Shannon, we were flying high and headed to the Cheesecake Factory. We had just found a parking spot when we got "the call" (you know the one with the screaming child in the background) someone decided that they weren't interested in taking their bottle (this was shocking b/c he's never had a problem with this before but apparently he wasn't in the bottle mood that evening). Not wanting to abandon our hopes of an evening out on the town, we said please keep trying!!! Needless to say after a few other phone calls we ended up back at the Logsdons to pick up our son who had now been screaming for over and hour and twenty minutes!! James and I packed him up and tried the bottle again but what a little stinker - he wouldn't do it. As we were driving home, tummies growling, I said "well, I guess we could pick up some burgers or something...." James: "yeah, but I really just wanted Cheesecake...." Jess: "...me too..." James: "aw, heck, lets just do it!" So we took the now sleeping baby to dinner with us to the Cheesecake Factory after all - and we still had a 40 minute wait at 9pm!! Oh but it was SOOOOO worth it!

(And Shannon don't worry he hasn't wanted to eat at 7 since! I stretched his feedings 4 hours apart now and that seems to have helped! So he really does love you I promise!)

Many of you have been requesting more baby pics - hope you enjoy the slide show!! Baby is now 4 months old and just started sucking his thumb!! It's so cute to see him finally find it after weeks of sucking on that fist trying to lure it out!

jesshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15741494844140089326noreply@blogger.com9tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-37149518.post-2025933868070510272009-02-21T20:17:00.010-05:002009-02-23T16:25:22.760-05:00Good Night... Jude Martin Frohlich was born on November 23 @ 5:07 am. He weighed exactly 8lbs. and was 211/4 inches long. (He was much bigger than we expected.) We are so thankful to have him here alive and well. As many of you know we had quite a few complications, making our hopes for a natural birth impossible... But alas our midwife was still able to get in on the action and take some wonderful pictures - thank goodness, I could barely keep my eyes open! Dealing with the disappointment of the c-seciton has been a difficult adjustment mentally and physically and on top of that the little one was having some feeding dramas. After loosing 17% of his birth weight, he's finally back up to 8.2lbs. - it was a nerve recking couple of weeks, but we're both doing MUCH better now. So... thanks for all your understanding and patience as I've just now started to reconnect with the world! We had family in giving us a hand and celebrating Thanksgiving with us and we're heading home for Christmas in just a few days - so if you called - thanks so much!! It meant a lot to hear from everyone - and I do plan on calling you all back, but I thought you'd want to know some details before the holiday! Talk about taking your pregnancy to a whole other level - this really made it seem so much more real for us! And we were able to have it video taped (you know we've been watching it at least once a week)!! And it's still a surprise!! Yippie!!

This was my favorite pic - something about those tiny feet!! I see no need trying to sway people from their current position... so though we are hoping for a natural birth process it doesn't mean it's for everyone and who knows I still may want those drugs!! But I do feel that you should make an informed decision before you pull the trigger about your birth location... so to each his own - just get informed!!***

1. The Business of Being Born is an excellent video, though it's a proponent of home birth, those choosing a midwife/birth center, or hospital I think would find the information helpful. Knowledge is power - so knowing what your options are before you hit the hospital and just blindly follow suit is a good idea. (On a personal note - I totally cried!! It took away all my fears about birth and made me super excited about the whole experience!!) And hello - it's not like a bunch of fanatical Christians made it, it's feminist in nature, but they have some sweet things to say. You can check out the trailer here http://www.thebusinessofbeingborn.com/ and I'm told you can even rent through netflix. Prenatal Fitness Fix with Erin O'Brien. So those of you who know me know that I am not a exercise buff, to say the least... meaning I NEVER EXERCISE. Our midwife has been strongly encouraging me to take it up, since this will be like the hardest thing I've ever done. So thanks to my good pal Shannon Logsdon I've actually been giving it a shot. She shared this video with me and I love it because:

She's human (and also prego herself)!! (You feel anybody can do this you don't have to be a trim and beautiful barbie doll).

But let not this down to earth look fool you - she's a personal trainer who knows her stuff! Check out the DVD cover for her creds. but take it from me she's a great coach. Tells you the do's and don't -shows you what they look like and gives great tips on actually isolating the muscles you're supposed to be using - you know so you're actually exercising!!

Erin doesn't push it. She's pregnant too, and tells you when too much is too much.

There's a pee break half way through ;)

If you have a couch and a coffee table you can do all of the exercises!! Leave the weights at the gym!!

If you're already super buff and need more of a challenge, she has a partner workout segment that provides you with much more resistance.

Know of any other good mommy to be videos or books please share!! This is baby at 8wks :) lets just say it's a lot bigger now and defenatly making it's presence known!! This Thursday will be 20wks and we are scheduled for another ultrasound - which we just found out we can have video taped :) - and we're hoping to NOT find out about the gender. Some happy and some sad - We spent Easter with the Graftons, Stacie graduated in May, husband took a summer class, we felt baby kicking for the first time, Mom2 was in town for a visit, we took a trip to Gettysburg, Jana was married, Sarah had a baby and we witnessed the loss of a earthly life and the beginning of a heavenly one. Joy and sorrow as we've heard the triumps and struggles of our friends these past few months. (And we are still praying for God to meet many of your needs!). It seems our hears have been filled to overflowing one day and heavily burdened the next. We've been upheld by remembering that there is a time and season for everything, and we're learning to embrace the weeping and the laughing, the life of a child a the death of a friend.

As you do not know the path of the wind, or how the body is
formed in a mother's womb, so you cannot understand the work of
God, the Maker of all things. Be happy, young
man, while you are young, and let your heart give you joy in the days of
your youth. My new Cannon Rebel!!! I have always wanted to get into photography but... my old camera wasn't cutting it - with the batteries staying alive long eneough to take 4 pictures (literally), but now perhaps my dreams can be realized!! Although I currently know nothing about shutter speed and apture, I've got all the gear to get me started on the journey - thanks to the most awesome family in the world!! They all chipped in and with my dad's super savy shopping skills got a killer deal on the set. Thus, for 2 reasons it's one of our favorite holidays, for the spiritual significance and we just like to dress up! James had a great idea a while back to combine the two 'holidays' if you will, with a new tradition. Each year he picks a different reformer/church father, spends the month studying them and then carves their portrait in a pumpkin. And during the carving he teaches me all about them - I love it! This years selection was.... Augustine. I must admit having recently returned from a relaxing trip to Naples Florida, I'm still struggling with a bit of vacation hangover. But alas, life must go on...

Contrary to poplular opinion regarding 'mother-in-laws' (who came up with that term anyway?!) my mom2 - as she likes to be called, is one of the most kind and generous people I think I've ever met. She knows what things are important in life and that's part of what makes her so much fun to be around! It just so happens that one of the things most important to her is spending time with the family - and we have been blessed beyond belief in this respect - both of James' and my family get along so well, that when mom2 wanted to go on a family vacation she invited my parents to join us! After arranging all the accomidations and checking out travel books - flights were booked, bags were packed and one by one we began arriving on the gulf coast.

Our journey began on Friday after Stacie got off of work, and after driving through some intense thunder storms we arrived in Naples on Saturday evening where we were greeted by Mom2 and Pablo (James' brother Paul). After a relaxing dinner at Olive Garden the fun began! Pablo brought his xbox along and purchased this new game Guitar Hero - what a blast!

You can probably figure it out from the pictures, but it uses mainstream punk rock songs from Nirvana and just about everone else you could think of - and you actually play the music. You can earn starpower for everything from jumping up and down to playing with your teeth - it's pretty crazy! Just like the pros, you can go on tour and if your serious you can hook up with fellow band members and compete in an online battle of the bands. I think we'll have to look at getting Paul the drum component for Christmas :) We laughed so hard that night, you'd be suprised how much everyone gets into being a rock star! Once the crowd cheers for you, you're hooked.

Sunday we chilled at the pool and did some SERIOUS grocery shopping! We would love to go back there again, it was so romantic and there was just so much that we didn't get to see.

Here's a few more of our vacation memmories:

(Pablo, click on the pics to see some of the captions)jesshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15741494844140089326noreply@blogger.com13tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-37149518.post-82325542265340374432007-08-06T10:56:00.000-05:002007-08-06T16:36:53.027-05:00GIRLFRIENDS!A few weekends ago James, Stacie and I were able to make a visit up to Baltimore to see Tim & Katie's new place. They are settling in well and it was fun to see where they shop, dine and do church (well at least a possible church - they are still shopping around).

We arrived late Friday evening and Katie, being the fabulous event planner that she is, found this local hot spot called The Paper Moon. It's a 24 hr. diner that we were pumped about checking out! However, upon arrival we became a little frightened by the large list of rules posted by the door, and if that wasn't enough we walk in and get seated in this bright purple and orange version of Sid's room (the scary kid from Toy Story...) there were dismembered and reassembled toys and manikins hanging from the ceiling and walls! But I must say, once you got over the "creepy" factor the food was great and we got some fun pictures (most of which are of the outside because we were too afraid to take many pics of the inside due to the "rules"), Katie has most of those pics - maybe this will help her put them up on her blog. ;)

(I also, for the first time in my life - laughed so hard, I started crying uncontrollably... I think I'm turning into my mom. It was kinda fun.)

Saturday after flipping through Tim's scrap book (yes, I said Tim's) and reading up on John Grisham we chowed down on some homemade waffles - which I haven't had since I was a kid (it brought back memories of when I was a kid - remember dad, how we found our waffle iron and then made an enormous amount of waffles to freeze?). Then it was off to the aquarium which was a blast! We watched some divers feed a sea turtle and sting rays, got splashed by dolphins and hunted by sharks - our favorite part of course. After that we grabbed a burger at 5 guys and walked the harbor. Strolling the harbor, a typically harmless event except for the costumed kitty cats, fairies and villains armed with 6ft long knives - it was OKATON! (NPR did a story on the festival for more info click here).

Sunday we had a refreshing worship experience at a new church Tim & Katie were wanting to try and the girls ventured out for some serious shopping! It was so much fun and I started missing Katie the min we pulled out of their driveway!

The following weekend was another great adventure with my college girlfriends. We decided that after graduation we would get together once a year just to keep in touch and well lets be honest - to be really crazy! You know, you act different when all the girls get together, everyone just gets goofy! One of the gals lives in DC and wasn't able to make it - but we love and miss you Rachie!

This year the meeting place was near Ocean City MD. Sarah, Jana and I hung out at the beach and of course the board walk - my camera batteries died before I got to snap shots of the Ferris wheel and all that so you'll just have to use your imagination! No trip to the shore would be complete with out Fishers Popcorn - you've got to check it out - there's none like it!

We were able to visit Jana's church - which was so refreshing!! The worship just really captured me, I haven't sung like that since college - I MISS THAT! And not just that, these gals really have shaped my heart, and taught me so much - they have and continue to sharpen me even though we're not packed into a dorm seeing each other every waking moment! Though I miss those late night talks and walks at BBC, it seems our friendships are as rich and deep as they ever were - despite the distance. You guys are my souls companions and I LOVE YOU!

And speaking of LOVE... that was one of the weekends hot topics - Jana has found the love of her life!! WOOO HOOO! We had such fun giggling and chatting about this budding romance and I even got to talk with Chad and share some really great "Jana Stories" as we like to call them :) He's wonderful! I could not be happier for her or more amazed that God not only gave her someone with larger calf muscles than her but also someone with all the things she ever wanted in a husband.

So that's my girlfriend news... how about your girlfriends? What do you do to keep in touch with your pals? Do you do anything fun together with friends who live out of state? Share you girlfriend memories!

PS - my great finds included a huge basket for shoes and frying pan, both from IKEA, and a super cute sun dress for 10$!! We spent two days, maps in hand, traveling the streets in search of the maidens. It was a great way to see the city! From the waterfront to the historic section and everywhere in between! We met many a friendly "norfolkians" happy to share the tale of their mermaid. We have quite a few more mermaids to track - like Moomaid, Toga, Music Moasic, and many more. Some we know where to find but others are hiding - let us know if you spot any so we can add them to our collection!

It looks like some of the mermaids may have evolved or changed enitrely over time - for more info on their history or for infromation on starting your own mermaid search check out mermaidsonparade.com.

For that much needed nourishment on your journey sip a starbucks, grab a burger at Johnny Rockets, Doumars (not my fave) or dine at Amalfi! (They have the cutest covered patio.)

We're loving being downtown - any other places we should check out?

jesshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15741494844140089326noreply@blogger.com10tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-37149518.post-10325308436778564182007-07-05T21:47:00.000-05:002007-07-05T22:30:07.787-05:00Sizzlin' SummerHey just a glimpse of what we've been up to lately... more to follow on the growth of my little seedlings...

jesshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15741494844140089326noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-37149518.post-39554090868183496302007-04-01T15:37:00.000-05:002008-12-09T22:33:24.618-05:00Green Thumb...This week I decided to try my hand at some gardening! Last year on the deck I had bought flowers and had them in some pots and a box hanging on the railing, but this year I decided to start everything from seeds. I picked some flowers and herbs and am hoping that this moonflower vine will cover the entire railing and transform it into a green wall of delight! I've got 50 some little pots going - crossing my fingers that they all sprout!

Since I'm so new to the gardening scene, I called up my dad for some advice... he suggested these peat pots - you plant the entire pot into the ground or larger container after it's sprouted! No messy transplanting - how cool is that! (I'm also trying the peat pellet - similar concept). I'd love any other tips from you seasoned gardeners out there... share, share, share!

PS - James and I grabbed a quick bite at KFC this past week. We tried there new BIG BOX meal, it's got a little of everything in it and when you 'super size' it you get this HUGE 1/2 gallon soda to drink! The picture doesn't do it justice, we couldn't believe how gigantic it was.

jesshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15741494844140089326noreply@blogger.com9tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-37149518.post-68889159525846492592007-03-25T21:32:00.000-05:002007-03-25T21:36:01.606-05:00PIRATE PARTY!Save the date - SATURDAY MAY 26TH! We laughed over fourtune cookies at PF Changs, bit our nails through "Shooter," and still made it home to catch the last March Madness game of the night.

Saturday started off with some deep cleaning, which always makes me feel great (perhaps I should then do it a little more often). After getting the fridge emptied and deep cleaned, I caught up with family on the phone, then headed out for some thrifting and got some great finds for spring and summer. James and I then hooked up with our pals TJ & Shannon for a delicious gourmet shrimp dinner cooked buy Chef TJ!! Thanks to all to you who came to celebrate James' 25th birthday, he felt so loved! (And thanks to Katie for the great pics- as you know my camera died mid evening!) We had plenty of food and good fortune to go around @ Pf Chang's. We topped off the evening with ice cream cake and games back at our place. It was so nice get the evening going a little earlier, we fit a lot in before starting to feel tired - it was great!

Oh, and I used my chopsticks the entire evening!

In my party planning efforts, I found this neat site where you can learn to write Chinese! Moving along, I'm hoping it's not too late to be posting about all our wonderful Christmas fun... We did go 'home,' both of our families are out side of Chicago - but we had no snow! Not a flake in sight! Since we couldn't go sledding we had to come up with some other things to do. We spent Saturday with both families baking cookies and other treats and enjoying gourmet soup compliments of chef Grafton. And we finally learned how to play Settlers of Catan!

Then started the Christmas extravaganza! Christmas eve with James' dad, Christmas morning with his mom and Christmas evening with my parents! It was non stop! James flew home early Tuesday moring and I stayed the rest of the week with my family. Stacie and I did a lot of shopping :) and we took a beading class at La Beada Loca. And last but not least we laughed and laughed as we strolled down memory lane while watching, you guessed it, Troop Beverly Hills!

(Moms, if I ever get around to it I'll post the pictures from our other Christmas stuff!)jesshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15741494844140089326noreply@blogger.com7tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-37149518.post-1165373901162481822006-12-05T21:41:00.000-05:002006-12-05T22:00:26.736-05:00Black is Black!

I LOVE black Friday!! For anyone who loves to shop, this is the most glorious day of all! And, I do love to shop! Perhaps there is no better way to enter into the holiday spirit than hit the stores at 5 a.m. the day after Thanksgiving. The hustle and bustle, great deals, and blaring Christmas music - the only thing that would have made our day better would have been snow. We actually didn't head out until 8:00, and for those who don't like a crowd, may I suggest MacArthur in downtown Norfolk. We had a parking spot right outside the door, and there wasn't a ton of people there at all (a clerk told us the "rush" comes between 1-4 black Friday). We finished off morning in Chesapeake, and enjoyed lunch at Don Pablo's. James went off to work and I headed right back to the stores!

Total gifts left to purchase before Christmas: 4

Oh, and yes, WE - James and I went shopping! For not sharing my love of shopping, he did quite well, there were only a few moments of heavy breathing ;)jesshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15741494844140089326noreply@blogger.com13tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-37149518.post-1163391667388949052006-11-12T22:27:00.000-05:002006-11-12T23:35:32.426-05:00FreedomTeacher inservice days were this past week - which means vacation days for me!!
